So you are wondering how to buy the right flat panel television for your needs and budget? After reading this article you will be ready to take advantage of the free fall in prices that's continuing especially in today's recession feared economy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Perserverance
  • Time to shop around
Step1
So you are asking yourself should I buy now or wait for prices to drop? Now is the very best time to purchase since over the past 5 years prices have dropped drastically and products have improved. Since the prices are lower than last year now is the time to buy.
Step2
Consider the size of the room Before making any such purchase be sure to consider the size of the room. If the television is too big for the room this will hurt your eyes and can cause damage. If you sit too close to a plasma television or LCD you'll ruin your own view because you will see the lines that make up the image instead of the picture.
Step3
Happiness ~ Extended warranty After deciding on the TV that is right for you be sure to get an extended warranty. Most electronics come with a manufacturers one year warranty and normally if anything was to go wrong it usually is within the first year it is much more cost effective to purchase the extended warranty than to have to pay for repairs and/or another television. Be advised that it is best to try to purchase a television or any electronics such as computers, stereo's, ipods etc., with a credit card this will also insure your purchase, consider this a little extra insurance.
Step4
Since your purchase is not inexpensive and will last a long time it would probably be best to buy a TV that is a HDTV or high definition television, it is most probable that all television programming will eventually be switched from analog to high definition over the next few years. Most premium cable and prime time programming including comedies and drama are already in high definition. This will give you the sharpest clearest picture available and result in optimum viewing pleasure.

Tips & Warnings

  • Shop around and utilize the internet to compare prices, sales and specials.
  • Consider the size of the room
  • An extended warranty is a must
  • Buyer beware: there are hidden costs that may not be included in your purchase such as installation, extended warranty, DVI cable (for video), optical cable (for audio) be sure to read what is and is not included in your purchase.

on 7/26/2008 Yes - if you are in the market for a television, HDTV is the set to get. Consider those as you shop - don't kick yourSelf later for not looking at all your options. Good article, Fusilli1of4, as always.
