Things You'll Need:
- White onions
- Egg Beaters
- Krusty's pancake mix
- Salt
- Pepper
- Curry powder
- Cayenne Pepper
- Canola Oil or any light oil
-
Step 1
Determine how many onion rings you want to make and peel onion(s) and cut off top & bottom based on this quantity. Slice in 1/2 inch slices, parallel to top/bottom, keeping onions in ring shapes as they are sliced off. Separate pieces into individual rings. Set aside onions.
-
Step 2
Pour 2 to 3 inches of Egg Beaters into medium-sized bowl, refill as needed.
-
Step 3
Mix dry ingredients into deep pan or tray: 2 cups of Krusty's pancake mix, 2 tablespoons (each) of salt and pepper, 1 tablespoon of curry powder, 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper. Spice more or less to taste. Make more dry mix as needed.
-
Step 4
Pour 1 inch of light oil into deep frying pan and heat on medium/medium high until a few drops of water sizzles. If oil begins to smoke, remove from heat for a minute or two and reduce heat.
-
Step 5
Arrange, from left to right: Onions, eggs, dry mix, frying pan of oil, plate with paper towels to catch extra oil.
-
Step 6
With left hand, pick up a few onion rings and drop in egg mix. With left hand, flip onion rings in egg until completely coated.
-
Step 7
With left hand, remove onion rings from egg mix and drop into dry mix without getting hand in dry mix.
-
Step 8
With right hand, toss additional dry mix on top of onion rings in dry mix bowl. Continue until completely coated.
-
Step 9
With right hand, remove onion rings from dry mix one at a time and drop in oil (when oil is correct temperature). Do not throw rings in, as oil will splash.
-
Step 10
With right hand, use fork to flip onion rings when bottom side has lightly browned.
-
Step 11
With right hand, use fork to remove onion rings when both sides are lightly browned. Place on plate with paper towels.
-
Step 12
Continue until you have made all the onion rings you can eat!
