Things You'll Need:
- Internet
- Map
-
Step 1
There are several helpful websites that list campgrounds that will save you money. One of the best websites is www.freecampgrounds.com . They list not only free (also known as boondocking)but low cost camping. The website lists campgrounds all over the United States.
-
Step 2
Another option is staying at State and County campgrounds. The stays are usually limited to 14 days but is worth the view. Just search the internet for the State or County you will be staying in and look for their campgrounds.
-
Step 3
Another popular way to save money with the campgrounds is to join a club. Clubs like Passport America (link to their website is the resource section below) save you 50% on your site. They usually don't include the weekend so if you only camp on the weekends this wouldn't be a good program for you. They charge $44 per year but you normally save that much in your first week of camping.
-
Step 4
You can also stay at most truck stops for free with the exception of truck stops in California and New York. A couple of good ones that cater to truckers and "4 wheelers"(this is what the truckers call regular cars) are Flying J, Pilot, TA, and Loves.
