How to Install Thunderbird Email in Windows Vista
Mozilla Thunderbird is the open-source email alternative to Microsoft Outlook. Because Thunderbird is open source, it is free and can be downloaded and installed in Windows Vista.
Instructions
-
-
1
Navigate to the Thunderbird homepage at mozilla.org/thunderbird and click the "Thunderbird Free Download" button.
-
2
Click "Save File" if given the option and save the file somewhere you will remember, such as the Desktop. The program will download to your computer.
-
-
3
Double-click the file to open it and allow Windows Vista to continue installation when the security popup box opens. Click "Run" if given the option and click "Next" twice to do a standard installation.
-
4
Click "Install" to accept the default installation location.
-
5
Click "Finish" to complete the installation and launch Thunderbird. When opened the first time, you will have the option to import contacts and other information from Outlook. Follow the wizard to add email, RSS and newsgroups. You will need information about your email server and website feeds to do this.

Tips & Warnings
Have your email server information handy before installation. That way, you can install and set up the program all at once.
Because this is an open-source program, many add-ons and extensions exist and can be downloaded for free.
Make sure you have a computer that will handle the program. All PCs with Windows Vista pre-installed should work fine.
