Oh, those long summer days, a time of relaxing evenings and good, homemade lemonade… and for me, delicious smoothies. They take minimal time and effort, and the result is more than worth it. The following is a recipe for one of my favorites, a blackberry pie smoothie, but feel free to substitute or add your own ingredients for your own special smoothie blend.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup blackberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 6 oz. yogurt (lemon or vanilla- your preference)
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 dash cinnamon
  • 1 Pinch nutmeg
Step1
Blend ingredients Place berries, yogurt and apple juice in blender and mix until ingredients begin to unify. Try adding the juice a bit at a time to prevent clumping.
Step2
Smoothie Add spices to the mixture in the blender and combine until completely smooth.
Step3
Yields 1 glass Mixture yields one 16 ounce serving. Pour and drink up.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add more fruit and/or yogurt for a richer, thicker smoothie, which can serve as a snack or a meal replacement.
  • Experiment with different ingredients to find your preferred flavors and consistencies. Nothing is set in stone and if one doesn’t suit, grab a few other ingredients and try again. Enjoy!
