This article is for the expectant mother who would like to set up a nursery for her new baby on a very small budget.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Crib and bedding
  • Changing Table
  • Dresser
  • Removable Stickers
  • Gift Bags
  • Frames
  • Double Sided Tape
  • Scissors

Step1
Place some stickers above the changing table. This provides a distraction while you change the diaper. Choose a few themes. This will influence all of your future decisions on colors and gift bag choices. Pick something colorful, especially since it is a nursery. Don't be afraid to mish-mash several themes. You would be surprised what will work together. I chose bears in general including Winnie the pooh and celestial stars and moons with inspirational sayings.
Step2
Finished product Make art work instead of buying it - You will be surprised how many gift bags you will receive if you have a baby shower, otherwise visit your local dollar store. You can find a variety of removable stickers and gift bags that can be used for artwork. Removable stickers provide the ability to restick if you misplace a sticker on the wall. They also allow for the theme to be easily changed as your child grows or if you are renting a property.
Cut the gift bag so that you eliminate the sides and bottom but do not discard. Remove any bulky handles etc. It is now a flat piece of paper bag. On the backside place double sided tape on each corner and affix the gift bag to the paper insert of the frame you would like to use. This solidifies the art work making it a little more durable. Insert into the frame and hang. The left over pieces can be cut out and taped to create another piece of artwork as shown with the Eeyore picture.
Step3
All in One Crib Sets are the simplest and most cost effective method to a quick nursery. Choose Crib - I recommend getting a set that you assemble yourself from your local discount retailer (WalMart etc). Some sets are complete with a crib, changing table and dresser. These usually can be purchased for under $250. This is a real cost saver. Also check you local thrift store for some great bargains on these expensive necessities.
Step4
Multiple themes in use. All of the artwork is made from gift bags and celestial star stickers purchased from Dollar Tree. Use the WHOLE wall to hang new artwork and apply stickers. Creat viual interest across the wall as I have done with the stars in the picture to the left. Cluster stickers together to create points of interest throughout the room as shown in the picture above showing the changing table. Use your imagination. There is no "wrong way" to decorate.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be afraid to combine multiple themes.
  • Use your imagination to make something special and one of a kind.
  • Paint is the fastest way to achieve dramatic room changes for the least amount of money.
