How to make POP CORN!!! (in a pan on the stove)

In this day and age its too convenient to pop a bag in the microwave and have Nuked Popcorn in just about 3 minutes.... But what about the old fashioned popcorn... smothered in real butter and salted... Remember how good it was? Sure it takes a little longer... but you will also have 2-3 times as much and wont have to fight over it...

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • OIl
  • Popcorn
  • Salt
  • Margerine or Butter
  • Popcorn Pan (or other deep covered pan)
  • Large bowl to put the Popcorn in.
  • Kitchen Mitten to keep your hand safe from Burn.

Step1
Prepare your Work area.
Start the oil heating and add the Margerine (if you are using Margerine)
Add some salt (about a level tablespoon)
Boil off most of the water in the salt and margerine before adding the Popcorn. This is very important!!!
The salt and the Margerine both have water in them that will reduce the temperature of the oil. You want the oil temp very hot... well above the water boiling temp.
This will help the Popcorn to pop quickly and make fluffier popcorn.
Step2
Add the Popcorn to the Oil,Margerine, salt mixture and keep it "Swishing" around while you wair to hear the popcorn start to pop.
The Swishing movement over the heat keeps the heat uniform to all of the popcorn. The popcorn all tries to pop at the same time this way and you dont end up with as many "Old Maids" or burnt Cornels that way.
(Pun intended)
Step3
Keep it shaking as the corn starts to pop and when it starts to pop rapidly pause a moment and let the heat hit do its trick..
If you put enough popcorn in the pan you will see the lid come off in just a moment as the popcorn litterally out grows the Pot its in.
Step4
Now with the Mitten on your hand hold the top on the pan and move the pan over your big popcorn bowl and use the lid to control the pour of popcorn into the ready and waiting large bowl.
Add melted Butter to suit...
Now... fight off the youngins and relax with some really good popcorn.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you get ready to make your popcorn be sure to put that large bowl in a spot that is convenient for you to pour the popcorn out of the pan and into the bowl... for me this is right next to the oven on a chair or on the countertop nearby.
  • Be sure to use the oven mitten when holding down the lid or pouring the popcorn into the bowl... the lid can burn you and so can the steam.
