Hurricane season is back and you'll want to keep track of the path of major hurricanes as often as possible. Here's how to do it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet
Step1
First go the National Hurricane Center's website at:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
Step2
When you are on the homepage, if there is an active storm it will show on their frontpage. The Hurricane Center gives you a list of links to track the hurricanes path.
Step3
You'll want to check on the latest public advisory to see exactly what the maximum wind speeds are and what the motion of the storm is.
Step4
July 7, 2008 location of Hurricane Bertha Click on the image below the text: Warnings and 5 Day Cone.

This is an example of a 5 day cone. This is Hurricane Bertha as of July 7th 2008.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/143313.shtml?5day#contents
Step5
Also keep a close eye on the forecast discussion as the hurricane nears the coast line. These things are updated more often as the hurricane nears the coast lines.
Step6
Don't lose track of the hurricane if you are in any danger at all of being effected. Too many have lost their lives because they were uninformed. Be informed!

Tips & Warnings

  • Check back to the National Hurricane Center site often
  • As the storm nears, you'll need to get away from the computer and move to a safer location
