If you are reading this article, then you are interested in getting around New York City in a wheelchair. I lived in New York City for 25 years and may have some helpful tips for you.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    1. The first step is to go where there are a lot of people. New Yorkers are very friendly and they will be willing to help you get around. I would get a red balloon and tie it to the wheel chair so people can see you from far away.

  2. Step 2

    2. Most building are ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ready so you need to look for policemen to help you navigate anything that is not. If you want to take the bus or train you can do this also, but you will need a transit worker to help you. Be patient and they will be glad to help.

  3. Step 3

    3. I would stay away from place like Chinatown because of the crowded sidewalks. If you go to the parks you will enjoy the city very much. Go out when the weather is nice (not too hot) and make the most of the city.
