Discoloration naturally occurs to all pearls as they age, so please remember that if you try to reverse these natural color changes you may cause permanent damage. To clean these you have 2 options - purchase a special cleansing solution made for pearls, or follow my easy & informative directions below! ***BE SURE TO READ ALL DIRECTIONS, TIPS, & WARNINGS BEFORE CLEANING!***

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Non-Detergent Non-Abrasive Mild Soap / Shampoo (i.e.-ivory flakes, baby soap)
  • Distilled Water
Step1
Place pearls in a mixture of a non-detergent soap & warm water.
Step2
Begin to massage the pearls very gently in the mixture with a
non-abrasive lint free fabric.
Step3
Rinse pearls in clean water.
Step4
Remove from water and dry with a soft lint free towel.
Step5
Let pearls sit out for a while to make sure they're sufficiently dry before putting them away in a place where no other jewelry is kept (i.e. - soft non-abrasive cloth bag).

Tips & Warnings

  • Always put your pearls on after you have applied any jewelry, lotion, hair spray, or makeup.
  • To return luster to pearls you can use olive oil. Pat it on the pearls with a very soft lint free cloth and VOILA! Beauty again!
  • Be sure to re-string your pearls periodically every 1-2 years and ask to have your pearls individually knotted to prevent them from rubbing up against one another.
  • Wipe pearls with a soft dry cloth after each wearing.
  • Never bathe or swim in your pearls.
  • Never clean pearls with a toothbrush, scouring pad, abrasive material, ammonia, harsh chemicals, or cleaning solutions designed for gold or silver jewelry.
  • Never try to steam-clean pearls. The heat can cause discoloration.
  • Do not store in a plastic airtight bag.
  • Keep them away from excessive heat and dryness to avoid discoloration.
