When a friend, child, family member or anyone else in your life experiences a bad case of sunburn, you may feel a little bit helpless. It may seem like there is nothing you can do to offer them comfort or support. But there are a few things you can do to help. Here are a few suggestions on how you can comfort someone with sunburn.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Let the person with sunburn know that you feel sympathetic. If the person wants to complain about their sunburn, just let them. Try to be as patient and understanding as you possibly can be.

  2. Step 2

Offer to apply aloe vera gel to the sunburn for the person. Keep in mind that some people may not want you to touch their sunburn. If the person does not want you to apply aloe vera, don't fight over the issue. Just let him know that you are there to do it if he would like you to.

  3. Step 3

Don't cling to the person. This is especially important if it is a boyfriend, girlfriend, wife or husband who has sunburn. Try to understand that clinging to the person is only going to aggravate the sunburn even further. Don't be upset if the person gets mad when you try to cling.

  4. Step 4

Allow the person with sunburn to sleep, watch TV, lie under the fan or just take a cold shower. Whether you have a fun day or a day of chores planned for the person, the sunburn may prevent them from being able to enjoy anything. Understand that it is not their fault.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are not able to offer sympathy to the person because you have never experienced sunburn yourself, think about how an oven burn feels.
  • Make sure that you bring sunblock to the pool or beach in order to prevent sunburn in the first place.
