What do you really want from your career? If you’re like most people, the answer to this age-old question can elude you from time to time. At one point you’re sure you desire success, status, fame and fortune. At other times, you just want happiness, contentment and peace of mind. Unless you take the time to determine your specific career goals and act upon them, chances are you will not be successful. So, what’s the best way to figure out your specific career goals? Take your career pulse and gain a clearer understanding of where to put your energy and efforts as you re-calibrate your career.

Things You'll Need:

  • Career Pulse Free Assessment
  • Career Journal
  • Time to complete the Assessment
  1. Step 1

    Download the Free Career Pulse Assessment to evaluate your current career condition and identify what’s restraining you from achieving your short and long-term career goals.

  2. Step 2

    Take a hard and honest look at your career and you. List your talents and the natural abilities you have to do something well.

  3. Step 3

    Catalog the skills and abilities you have acquired as a result of experience and training,

  4. Step 4

    Reflect on your capacity to perform successfully and exceptionally well especially under stressful conditions. Record your observations.

  5. Step 5

    Consider the development activities you have had to sharpen and hone your talents, skills, abilities and competencies.

  6. Step 6

    List any obstacles, barriers or challenges you currently face that impact your career success. Include people or tasks that hinder or prevent your progress.

  7. Step 7

    Identify the challenging situations that tend to test your talents, skills, abilities and competencies.

  8. Step 8

    Think about the very next step you will take to advance your career.
