Maja blanca is an all-time favorite dessert in the Philippines. It frequently appears at family gatherings and special occasions. To prepare this dessert, you can use any of the three different types of coconut milk -- fresh, canned or powdered.
Things You'll Need
- Baking dish
- Corn oil
- Mixing bowl
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 cups coconut milk
- Mixing spoon
- 1/4 cup corn kernels
- 1/4 cup raisins
- Cooking pot
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts for topping
Lightly grease the bottom of a baking dish with corn oil. Set aside.
In a mixing bowl, place the cornstarch, sugar, water and coconut milk. Stir the mixture until the ingredients are blended well.
Add corn kernels and raisins into the mixture and blend well.
Transfer the contents of the bowl to a cooking pot. Set over medium-high heat and cook for about 10 minutes, gradually stirring the mixture until it thickens. Watch for the mixture to turn slightly off-white in color.
Remove the mixture from the heat and pour it into the greased baking dish.
Sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
Let the pan cool for about 10 minutes, then put it inside the refrigerator.
Chill the dessert for at least one hour. Cut it into slices and serve.
Tips & Warnings
- If you are using coconut milk powder, dissolve it first in water according to package directions before mixing with the rest of the ingredients.
