This is a very simple trick to get you started.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Ask a volunteer to shuffle the cards.

  2. Step 2

Riffle through the deck, looking for your "unlucky card." This can be any card you choose, except the top one. Remember the top card.

  3. Step 3

Pull out your unlucky card and leave it face down on the table.

  4. Step 4

Instruct the volunteer to cut the deck and place both halves on the table. Pick up the bottom half and lay it crosswise on top of the upper half.

  5. Step 5

Ask the volunteer if he has a lucky or unlucky card. You are distracting him from what you just did.

  6. Step 6

Now tap the top part of the deck on the bottom half. Say, "This is my lucky card. Want to see it?" You want him to pick up the top card of the bottom pile.

  7. Step 7

Have him look at the card but not show it to you. He can now shuffle and cut to his heart's content: You already know that the card he looked at was the top card from step 2.

  8. Step 8

Use any method you like to reveal the card. You can sort through the deck until you find it, hold the pack up to your forehead and announce the card, or whatever.

Tips & Warnings
  • The unlucky card is a diversion. Draw as much attention to it as you want.
  • When you are distracting the volunteer, make eye contact with him. It will break his concentration.

on 11/22/2005 Do NOT tell the volunteer your secret. If you do, everybody will know how to do the trick.
