When facing an illness, especially a chronic one a good team of doctors is invaluable. The communication between you and your doctors can have a bearing on how you feel. which in turn, can impact your next appointment time. It has been my own experience, that allows me share what I know..

• know your rights as a patient

1. Do some research, when you go in to see your doctor be ready to ask questions. If it's your first visit a list of questions is always useful.
2. Have the names and telephone numbers of other health professionals you would want your doctor to communicate with. Sharing information about you between doctors can eliminate mistakes especially when medication is given. Be sure that all lab work and x-rays are shared by doctors to eliminate duplication of such test.
3. If Medication is given, don't be afraid to ask why you are given the medication and what or how will it affect you long term.
4. Most important at the end of a doctor visit take notice as to how much time was spent on getting to know you. The more he knows about you, the more he will share with other doctors.
