How to Crochet a Nantucket Basket Christmas Ornament

Crocheting a Nantucket basket ornament for your Christmas tree is easy with my free pattern!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Small amounts worsted weight yarn in light brown and dark brown
• Fiberfill stuffing
• Small wooden toggle bead
• Size H crochet hook

1. 
   Nantucket basket Christmas ornament

   Size: 3 1/2" tall
   Gauge: 2 rnds of dc=1"
   
   Note: Weave in ends as work progresses.
   
   Bottom of basket
   Rnd 1: With light brown yarn, make ring (or ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring. I prefer the "magic ring" method.), ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3 (12 dc).

2. Rnd 2: (Work this round in back loops only!). Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join as before (12 dc).

3. 
   Nantucket basket Christmas ornament

   Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join as before, fasten off (16 dc).

4. Top of basket
   Rnd 1: With dark brown, make magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join w sl st in 1st sc, fasten off (6 sc).

5. Rnd 2: Join light brown w sl st in any sc, ch 3, 2 dc in same sc, 3 dc in next sc and in each sc around, join w sl st in top of ch 3, fasten off (18 dc).

6. Stuff bottom of basket. With light brown, whipstitch top of basket to bottom of basket, adding more stuffing if needed before closing. You'll want the sides to poof out a bit and the top to poof up a bit.

7. Handle
   With light brown, ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in each ch across, fasten off (20 sc).

8. Sew handle to sides of basket as shown.

9. Basket fastener
   Attach light brown in front and center st of Rnd 2 of basket top, ch 5, join w sl st in next st, fasten off.

10. Hold ch 5 loop down. Glue toggle bead lengthwise in center of loop.

11. Let dry. Enjoy!
