Crocheting a Nantucket basket ornament for your Christmas tree is easy with my free pattern!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small amounts worsted weight yarn in light brown and dark brown
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Small wooden toggle bead
  • Size H crochet hook
  1. Step 1

    Size: 3 1/2" tall
    Gauge: 2 rnds of dc=1"

    Note: Weave in ends as work progresses.

    Bottom of basket
    Rnd 1: With light brown yarn, make ring (or ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring. I prefer the "magic ring" method.), ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3 (12 dc).

  2. Step 2

    Rnd 2: (Work this round in back loops only!). Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join as before (12 dc).

    Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join as before, fasten off (16 dc).

  4. Step 4

    Top of basket
    Rnd 1: With dark brown, make magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join w sl st in 1st sc, fasten off (6 sc).

  5. Step 5

    Rnd 2: Join light brown w sl st in any sc, ch 3, 2 dc in same sc, 3 dc in next sc and in each sc around, join w sl st in top of ch 3, fasten off (18 dc).

  6. Step 6

    Stuff bottom of basket. With light brown, whipstitch top of basket to bottom of basket, adding more stuffing if needed before closing. You'll want the sides to poof out a bit and the top to poof up a bit.

  7. Step 7

    Handle
    With light brown, ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in each ch across, fasten off (20 sc).

  8. Step 8

    Sew handle to sides of basket as shown.

  9. Step 9

    Basket fastener
    Attach light brown in front and center st of Rnd 2 of basket top, ch 5, join w sl st in next st, fasten off.

  10. Step 10

    Hold ch 5 loop down. Glue toggle bead lengthwise in center of loop.

  11. Step 11

    Let dry. Enjoy!
