Getting married does not mean dating each other have to end. Actually, you should be looking forward to having more fun and quality time together. There is a lot to be said about the saying ”You have to keep doing what you did to get him (or her) if you want to keep him (or her)”. I have a friend whose father has written a love letter to his wife every Christmas for at least 40 years. I was absolutely touched when I celebrated Christmas with them and the father started reading this letter to her in front of the family. My friend said it was a tradition and that he had been doing it ever since they were children. How remarkable! They renewed their vows for their 50th Anniversary a couple of years ago. Last month, I kept a friends’ two daughters so she and her husband could have an evening together. It was their first evening in more than 8 years. She told me afterwards that they had no idea what to do it had been so long since they had actually had an evening alone. They wasted half of the night trying to figure out how to spend it. No one should ever let that happen in his or her relationship – married or single. So this article will give you a few fun dates to think about so that doesn’t happen to you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Spouse
  • Great imagination
  • Money
  1. Step 1
    Dinner in park

    Dinner in park

    Have dinner in the park.

Do a step up from the old “picnic in the park”. You want something that is memorable so have a quiet formal dinner in the park. Some states have parks that specialize in this and if you have one, so much the better. If not, the arrangements are not difficult. Call a restaurant and order the meal, pick up the wine or giddy of choice. Grab that card table and chairs out of the garage. Run by the dollar store and pick up a table cloth and the works. Write a love letter and read it during dinner.

  2. Step 2
    Spa date

    Have a spa date.

Spas do not have to be expensive treks to some faraway resort. Did you know you can get therapists to make house calls? Some for less than $100.00. Schedule a couple's massage treatment in the comfort of your home. After a Swedish or hot stone massage, complete the evening with a bubble bath or the hot tub.

  3. Step 3
    Bike date

    Go bike riding

Hit the trails. Have a friendly race or a casual ride, just as long as you both want to do it.

  4. Step 4
    Cruising date

Put your hair in the wind.

I drive a 1998 red and white convertible Camaro and would not trade it for the world. My coworkers call it my midlife crisis car. I can see I will be in crisis mode forever because there is nothing more exciting to me than driving my convertible. So get your sunglasses, and a convertible (rent one if you have to), put that top down and cruise to the next town.

  5. Step 5

Do something different from your everyday routine including the type things you do together with the kids. You want this time to be all about the two of you. The goal is to make more good memories and keep on making them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Leave out the shop talk, including kids.
  • If you decide to stay home, turn off the cell phone, PDA's, and unplug the land line. This is your time together. Leave the world outside.
