Host a clothing swap -- Invite neighbors, friends and family to your house for a clothing swap. Ask guests to bring gently used clothing they no longer wear, and swap with someone else for some great finds. Play music, set out some coffee or tea, and you can even have a post-party fashion show.
Step2
Visit your local Goodwill or Salvation Army Thrift Store -- You can find some fantastic deals here. I once found a new Gucci handbag for $12! Not only do they have great deals on clothes, but these stores can also save you money on housewares and even furniture.
Step3
Consignment Shop -- These are becoming more and more popular. Items are usually well organized by size and style, and you can usually find some higher quality items here. Some consignments stores even offer frequent shoppers cards to help you save even more money.
Step4
Clothing on Sale -- If you decide to shop for clothes at a department store, never ever pay retail price. Clothing is one of the most highest marked up items a store can offer. Wait for it to go on sale, or better yet plan for the following year with end-of-season sales.
Tips & Warnings
eBay can be a great resource for buying clothing on sale, however you will not be able to try it on before buying. Be sure to read the seller's return policy.
Some thrift stores may not accept returns, so try on clothes before purchasing.
