See Quebec City's Coolest Attraction - The Ice Hotel

Quebec City, Quebec was my favorite place to visit when I traveled. I had the good fortune of setting my own schedule and choosing my audits. Whenever Quebec City was among them, I would immediately add that to my task list. Quebec is beautiful! The city itself is beautiful with so much of its tradition still present. This article will tell you how to find the coolest attraction ever in Quebec.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Warm Clothes
  • Plans to Visit Quebec
  1. Step 1

Consider staying at the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac.

You have a large selection of places to stay while visiting Quebec City, but I recommend my all time favorite, Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. It would be considered a little expensive (depending on when you visit), but I think it is worth the money. It is a beautiful historical hotel where no two rooms are alike! It is also located in the center of Quebec City where you can easily walk to restaurants, shops and other attractions.

  2. Step 2

Book a tour of the Ice hotel.

You must visit the ice hotel. (Some call it the Ice Palace). Even if you choose not to spend the night, you would be in awe of this magnificent piece of work. Everything in this hotel is made of ice.

  3. Step 3

Have a glass of vodka on the Ice Hotel.

As stated earlier, everything in the hotel is made of ice. The glasses that they use to serve you vodka are made of ice. The bar where the liquors are kept is made of ice. The glass is cold but don’t worry, it didn’t stick to my lips!

  4. Step 4

Say a prayer, watch a wedding or enjoy a quiet moment.

The Ice Hotel has a chapel with an altar that is also constructed of ice. There are seats shaped like benches for guests to sit on (yes, also made of ice) with a bearskin covering to keep your bottom from getting wet (body temperature might cause a little melting). I must admit, the bearskin didn't help me much. My bottom was still freezing so I stood up through most of the presentation!

  5. Step 5

    Spend the night.

Even though I refused the honor of spending the night, the average person was paying $500.00 a night to stay at the hotel. The proprietor mentioned that there is generally a waiting list of people wanting to get married and honeymoon at the Ice Hotel. Overall it was an exciting experience.

Tips & Warnings
  • Dress warmly. Wear gloves, hat, heavy coats or a lot of layers. The temperature of the Ice Hotel is below freezing – for obvious reasons.
  • Look at the video for pictures of my adventure.
  • The Ice Hotel is a seasonal venue. It is destroyed in April of each year and rebuilt around October annually. Visit http://www.icehotel-canada.com/en/ for more information on the Ice Hotel.

on 7/9/2008 You've got to go! I love Canada and Quebec City is my favorite "cold" spot! It's so traditional and so much of its rich history is still present, I just love it!
