Saving money right now is a challenge for everyone. Cleaning a few extra vents around the house can really save those dollars throughout the year. This easy simple idea just takes a little time and elbow grease and you will feel a cooler house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sponges, brushes, and/or towels
  • Ladder or step stool
  • soaps or cleaners of your choice
  1. Step 1

Remove dirty vents from the house using ladder or step stool(safely). Place a towel in the doorway of each room and leave that rooms vent on it. Do the whole house leaving dirty vent in doorways.

  2. Step 2

Now that all the vents are down - Clean them. One by one take them to the sink and wipe with sponge that is moistened or brush. I found that a micro fiber towel works the best to trap the lint and dust. You may need to use cleaners depending what kind of dirty it is. If you use a cleaner make sure that you rinse it well because lint and dust will build up faster if there is a residue.

  3. Step 3

Place each vent back in the doorway of the room it came from. This will allow it to dry and you will know which one goes where.

  4. Step 4

    Replace vents(safely).

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not forget the larger vent that pulls the air into the air conditioner. It might be inside the house.
  • Clean - Clean -Clean. Rinse!
