Step1
First, knowledge is the key to solving most everyday problems. And since you clicked on this, you must be interested in taming and training a wild squirrel. So that is your problem, and this article will give you information about it.
Step 1--Knowledge . Silly, you can not tame and train a wild squirrel. It is as simple as that. Humans cannot permanetly train wild animals, no matter what anyone says and no matter what anyone shows you on television or in movies.
Those humans might think they have the animals tamed and trained, but the bottom line is that the animal is most likely just frightened for the moment, the week or even the year. And there will be a time when the animal will assert itself and go back to being wild.
And, at that point this animal is very dangerous. Why do you think that all authorities and all animal experts keep telling you not to have wild animals as pets?
If that wild "TAMED" tiger did not teach you that simple lesson, then nothing will. Those guys, the famous lion tamers, the ones that kept the well, lion or tiger in their apartment, thought that they had trained this animal. And they thought it for quite some time too.
YOU CAN NOT TAME A WILD ANIMAL:
Bottom line--the animal turned on the guy. No. There is no excuse such as the animal did not mean to do it. It is as simple as the animal was born wild, lived wild, was temporarily trained and then turned back to his wild memory once again. And most times, that will happen with all wild animals if you keep them long enough.
Step2
REMEMBER THE RAMPAGING ELEPHANTS?
You probably have seen the videos of those animals, those huge elephants running wild through the parking lots. One of them even killed someone on the wild spree. This is a wild animal. He was a wild animal a week , a month and even a year before he killed this guy. You really cannot blame the animal.
Blame the trainers and blame the people who continue to pay money to see wild animals do human things.
Okay, so step one in being real is know that you cannot really tame a wild animal.
Step two is settling for training a domestic animal if you choose to do so. Get a Parrot or a dog or cat or some animal like that. Since you seem to like rodents -- the squirrels, go buy gerbil for your home. These animals most resemble rats or rabbits with long tails. And they could resemble a squirrel if you squint your eyes and kid yourself enough.
Some have been known to train gerbils. And these are domesticated, raised in captivity. So you have a little better chance than trying to train a wild squirrel.
Are you still insisting on the squirrel. Here is an idea. Why not start your training with a skunk? And if you are successful with the skunk, then by all means , you are graduated to the top of the class in training wild animals and you are ready to train an outdoors squirrel.
(In case you did not pick this up, I am joking about training a skunk, I am simply trying to stress the point that no humans should be training and taming wild animals.
Step3
Step three. Thank God that you came to your senses. So there you go. That is how you can (not) tame and train a squirrel in your home.

on 7/29/2008 Very good points. I wouldn't feel safe if small breed domestic dogs and cats all of a sudden weighed 100 pounds or more, either.
