Most cars are designed based on a mileage efficiency close to the speed limit. Therefore, do not drive over the speed limit. This will help ensure the most efficient use of your engine and gas. During long stretches of driving, use cruise control to help keep the speed constant as well since the more constant (less acceleration), the more efficient you will use your gas.
Step2
When starting and slowing down, do so in a slow gradual manner. Quick (rabbit-like) accelerations will waste gas very quickly.
Step3
Try to look far ahead to get a sense for signal timings so that if you can, you should try to stay moving at all times rather than stopping and starting. For example, if you see a red light far ahead, you have want to start slowing down slightly to time it right so that by the time you get to the signal, it’s green and you don’t have to stop.

on 7/6/2008 Great suggestions. With gas prices so high we have to save where we can.
