Step1
If you don't have a dimmer switch, get one installed. Use only the amount of light you need in a room.
Step2
When you leave a room, turn off the lights,t.v. and what ever else you may have on that you are not using.
Step3
Change the filters on your air cooling system often.
Step4
Try hang drying your clothes every now and then, or switch to a gas dryer.
Step5
Turn your cooler off when you are not at home, or set it at 85.
Step6
Never have your air conditioner on with a window or doors open, if you do so, it makes your system work ten times harder to cool at the temp. you set it at, and skyrockets your use.
Step7
Weather strip around doors, and windows, make sure everything is sealed. You do not want any air leaks.
Step8
Consider putting a reflective window tint or window film in.
Step9
Use energy efficient light bulbs.
Step10
Consider more grilling outdoor, instead of on an electric stove.
Step11
Close the blinds and curtains in your rooms that are not in use. You may use natural sunlight, if needed instead of artificial light though. (It keeps the heat from the sun out, thus allowing your cooling system to work easier).
Step12
Unplug anything that is not in use. Sometimes, even if it is not in use, and it is plugged in, it uses energy.
Step13
Do not run your dishwasher unless it is fully loaded.
Step14
Consider using cold water for your laundry, unless it is really important for you to use hot water.
Step15
Avoid doing only partial loads of laundry.
Step16
Install a timer on your pool pump, if you have one.
Step17
Make sure your attic is properly insulated.
