Taking a vacation using only one tank of gas can be a great way to save money and get to know the attractions in your area. Here's how to get started.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Map
  • Calculator
  • Car with a tank of gas
  1. Step 1

Calculate the mileage of your car. We drive a Ford Focus, which gets about 30 miles to a gallon and has a 10 gallon tank. This means we can go about 300 miles on one tank of gas. Divide 300 miles by 2 and you will get 150 miles. This is the furthest distance you can travel to get to your destination and back on one tank of gas.

  2. Step 2

Obtain a map of your area and draw a radius around your house for the mileage calculated in step 1 (150 miles in this example).

  3. Step 3

Find local attractions within this radius and plan your vacation. With the money saved on gas, you may be able to splurge more on other things during your time off -- a trip to the spa, for example. Have fun!

on 7/25/2008 What a clever idea! We ordered USPS postage stamps online instead of going to the post office to buy them because the fee for the USPS to deliver the stamps to our home was cheaper than driving to the PO. Funny how we have to rethink our driving habits.
