How to Sponge Paint Ceramics

Sponging can add intriguing textures to your ceramic projects.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Acrylic Paints
  • Sponges
  • Acrylic Paints
  • Paper Plates
  • Paper plates
  • Sponges
  1. Step 1

    Collect a sponge, acrylic paints, a flat dish and a piece of bisque to be painted.

  2. Step 2

    Pour three or four different colors of paint onto separate areas of the dish.

  3. Step 3

    Use a round sponge and dab at each color so that they overlap.

  4. Step 4

    Press the sponge lightly onto the bisque.

  5. Step 5

    Turn the sponge frequently so that a pattern doesn't develop.

  6. Step 6

    Use a sea sponge for a lacy look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with different sponges.
  • In a pinch, you can get a similar effect with a wadded-up plastic grocery bag.
