Things You'll Need:
- positive attitude
- Positive thinking
- happy thoughts
- perserverance
- confidence
- encouragement
-
Step 1
The first thing you need to do is assess the situation. Decide where the negativity is coming from. Once you have figured that out you have two choices. You can remove yourself from the situation or you can try and stay positive and possible raise the person from their negative funk.
-
Step 2
To remove yourself from the situation simply excuse yourself to do something else, such as go to the restroom, bite to eat ... etc, and then do that and move on to different people. You could also remove yourself from the situation entirely and leave the premises. This is not always an option.
-
Step 3
If you stay, you can tell the person the positive aspects of the situation ... for example: if you are attending a funeral and someone is continually talking about how this is so awful, pretty much making everyone feel awful, you can say ... you know i remember the great things about this person ... remember that one time ?... Etc. Spreading joy and good stories can lift a person out of a negative mood.
-
Step 4
Lastly, you can repeat to yourself positive thoughts. This can help you remain in a positive state of mind and not revert to negative thinking.
