Royal Icing is the perfect choice for decorating sugar cookies. It dries smooth and shiny. Plus it can be tinted any imaginable color.

Instructions

Step1
INGREDIENTS:

2 cups powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons meringue powder
1/4 cup water
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1/4 teaspoon butter extract
Step2
In a mixing bowl combine meringue powder and water. Add extracts. Add powdered sugar to desired consistency. Stir until smooth and shiny.
Step3
Divide into small bowls and tint with food coloring to reach desired colors. Keep covered when you aren't using the royal icing, or it will harden prematurely. Decorate cookies as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • I like to use a decorating bag fitted with a small round tip for easy control.
  • Pipe a thin outline and let dry. Fill in with Royal Icing for a professional smooth edge.
