How to Create a Hole in a Cabochon

Cabochons are shaped and polished gemstones. Their flat bottoms make drilling possible, especially if you want to use them for jewelry purposes.

Things You'll Need:

• diamond drill bit
• various cabochons
• a bucket of water

1. 
    
   Diamond Drill Bit.

   Begin the drilling process with a diamond drill bit. Make sure to keep the drill damp, soaking is not necessary.

2. Begin drilling in a bucket of water. This will ensure that the drill will remain wet.

3. Drill slowly in a up and down movement. This will enable water to reach under the drill. Do not maneuver the bit down hard on your gem, this will break it.

4. Drill no more than an inch, depending on the depth of the gem.

• Always keep the diamond drill bit wet.
• Keep drills out of reach from children.
• Drill slowly and carefully to ensure you do not ruin the gemstone.
