Open your internet browser of choice and copy this link (first select the text with your cursor and then hit Ctrl-C; this copies the text into your computer's memory):
http://www.blender.org/
Step2
Open up a new page or tab and paste the link into the address bar (click in the address bar and make sure there is no other text in it and the hit Ctrl-V; this pastes the text from your computer's memory to the location you selected. In this case it is the address bar).
Step3
Blender 3D homepage.
Press the Enter key. This will navigate your new tab or page to the Blender 3D home page. Once on the page you should see something like this:
Step4
Over on the right hand side in the upper corner is a "Download Now" link. Press it.
Step5
Blender 3D downloads page
This will take you to the downloads page. You will see a number of different options available. Choose the appropriate operating system (I will tell you how to install for Windows XP).
Step6
Click on the link that says "Blender X.XX Installer" (where the X's are the current version number). A dialoge will come up asking you if you would like to save the file (this is common across most major browsers). Press the appropriate "Save File" or "Save To" button.
Step7
Once the file has been downloaded navigate to the location on your computer that you downloaded it to. Double click on the file. The file is a self extracting "exe" (executable) file that will bring up an installation prompt. Once you complete the prompt Blender 3D has been installed. Congratulations and welcome to the world of 3D modeling.
Tips & Warnings
While I could have just told the user where to go I think it is worth my time to explain what each step does and why.
Browsers differ as well as installation packages for different operating systems.
