Things You'll Need:
- garden hose
- rubber gloves
- tomato juice
- 3% hydrogen peroxide
- dishsoap
- baking soda
- leash
- cotton balls
- bucket or lg bowl
- wash rag
-
Step 1
If your pet gets sprayed by a skunk, there is what to do. First off, do not let your pet inside. Tie them up outside, or in your garage. Provide fresh water for pet, in case the spray went into their mouth.
-
Step 2
You will need 2-4 large cans of tomato juice, depending on the size of your pet and the degree of stink. You will want to wear old cloths and rubber gloves. Cover your pet in the juice, rubbing into fur and skin. Get from nose to tail, head to paws. Concentrate the tomato juice around pets head and neck area. You will not want to use the peroxide mix around your pets head, so use ample amount of juice to remove the odor.
-
Step 3
Leave your pet covered in tomato juice for a while. The length of time will depend their size and the smell. They may lick the juice off, and that's okay. It will not hurt them and gets taste out of their mouth. When your think they are ready, rinse the juice off with garden hose. Let your pet loss to run and rub in grass and dry off.
-
Step 4
Now your will need to prep for the peroxide step. You will need a bucket or large bowl, rubber gloves, and a wash rag. The mix requires 1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4 Baking Soda, and 1 teaspoon of Dish Soap, but don't mix ingredients together until ready to use. Tie your pet down again and place cotton balls in the ears to keep mix out.
-
Step 5
Put your rubber gloves back on and mix the ingredients. Dip the wash rag in the bucket and sponge the mixture onto your pets fur. Remember to avoid putting any on pets head, and only go half way up their neck. They will feel a tingling sensation from the peroxide, but it will not hurt them. Use enough mix to were it is dripping off pet.
-
Step 6
Next your will want to rinse off the mix. Make sure their head is up high, start at their neck and rinse downward. Thoroughly rinse all of the mix off, and then your can let the pet run again. Check them once they have dried to see if the skunk odor is gone. If so, HOORAY, you can keep Fiddo!! What until the next day and give pet bath with their regular shampoo, just to help revive their skin and fur.
-
Step 7
If the smell of skunk still exists on your pet you will want to repeat the tomato step again. I recommend only using the peroxide mix once. Maybe try using more cans of juice or leaving it on longer to get the remaining odor off your pet.
