This article will provide how to prepare to work in Brazil if you are an American.

Things You'll Need:

  • Tutorial on the Portugese language.
  • Reference materials on the Brazilian culture
  • Understanding of business you will be involved in.
  • Reference material on how to do business in Brazil.
  • Establish a relationship over the phone with at least one business individual who can show you around the company and area you will be living.
  • A good appetite!
  • Patience
  • Desire to learn about a new exciting culture.
  1. Step 1

    Do your homework. Research the area of Brazil you will be working. What are the demographics, goverment in place, laws, key leaders in place, climate, languages spoken in which regions, commerce. Search the internet under travel sites.

  2. Step 2

    Learn the basics of the Portugese language. Brazil is in South America; but it is not spanish speaking, it is a beautiful
    language.

  3. Step 3

    VERY IMPORTANT. Learn about the culture, how the people live and what the common courtesies. You may want to hire a coach to help you practice the common courtesies and basic greetings and simple requests.

  4. Step 4

    Obtain your passport and a work visa for the time you plan to stay in Brazil.

  5. Step 5

    Be sure to have someone meet you at the airport and transport you to
    the organization, hotel or establishment. Escorts are needed if you are
    a Female; do not walk alone, I would not advise it.

  6. Step 6

    Brazilians are savvy business people; however establishing a relationship comes FIRST, so plan to go out to eat, drink before
    any business is done. Prepare your stomach, Brazil has great food
    and drink!!
