After the Katrina Hurricane there have been several cars that were damaged and ruined that have been rebuilt and sold to unsuspecting consumers. To ensure that you do not fall victim to this scam, follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet
  • A Refrigerator Magnet
  • A Dollar Bill
  • Good Eyes

Step1
Go to carfax.com to check the title of the car before purchasing it. Many times if you have respectable dealer they will pay for this, so ask them to. DO NOT BUY a car without this!
Step2
If you buy a car and get the carfax report and you are sill unsure. Get a refrigerator magnet and place on different parts on the body of the car. If there is a place on the body of the car that it does not stay on, it is likely that the car was wreaked. The magnet is not sticking because the car has too much plastic fillers and body paint.
Step3
A cars door that has been rebuilt often will not shut properly. To ensure that the car door is the original, place a dollar bill in the door when it is shut. If you try to pull the dollar out of the door and it comes out easily that means the door has been rebuilt. If the door has not been rebuilt there will be no resistance when you pull the dollar.
Step4
Check the color of the paint. Check the color of the metal under the hood and around the engine compartment and make sure that it matches the outside, if it is different be weary.
