Step 1
Visit the USPS official Web site at USPS.com. Locate the "Receiving Mail" portion of the Web site. Select "Change of Address--Get Your Mail After Your Move."
-
Step 2
Indicate whether your mail forwarding will be "Permanent" or "Temporary." If you don't plan to return to the address, select "Permanent." Select "Temporary" if you plan to move back to the address within one year. Enter a date when you'd like your mail forwarding to start and, if your change of address is temporary, when you would like it to end.
-
Step 3
Mark your type of move. Select the best description from "Individual," "Family" or "Business." You may have to repeat the change of address form if you go by more than one name, if only certain members of a household are moving or if some family members have different last names.
-
Step 4
Enter your personal information. Type your full name, your old and new physical addresses, and your email address. Be sure to indicate if your new residence was built within the last six months to avoid confusion and USPS database issues.
-
Step 5
Verify your identity for the address change by using a credit card bearing your name and address. Enter your card number and its expiration date and your phone number. You may choose either your old or new physical address as a billing address. Confirm that all the information is true by checking the box next to the verification statement.
-
Step 6
Designate your choices in catalog forwarding.
-
Step 7
Confirm your desire to change your address.
