How to Pick Activities for a Wine-Tasting Party

1. Invite a sommelier to attend the party to give a lesson on wine-tasting techniques and to discuss the qualities of a great wine. Ask him or her to bring a selection of wines from different regions, grapes and years to show guests how to recognize and compare the different traits. Also invite him or her to stay for dinner to discuss the art of food and wine pairing.
2. Blindfold your most experienced wine-loving guests to test their palates. Give them single ounces of different wines and see what they can tell you about their body, aroma, taste and finish. Also try a fun test for all the guests by offering two different tastes of wine and asking them to identify the more expensive one.
3. Have each guest bring their own wineglass or wine-related tool to show the other partygoers. Have each person vote for their favorite utensil or piece of stemware and give the winner a nice bottle of wine.
4. Consider organizing a wine-related craft. Provide small loops of wire (you can also use unfinished wire hoop earrings), metal jump rings, ribbon and an assortment of charms like shapes and monograms and ask guests to make their own wineglass charms. Award the person who creates the most fun and functional design a gift card to a local wine or gourmet shop.
