• Soap

1. Measure your fireplace so you know the size of the fireplace bumper pad you need to purchase.

2. Review the fire-retardant level of the fireplace bumper pad you're considering. Some are fire retardant enough that you can continue to use your fireplace with the bumper pad, while others recommend you remove the pad when the fireplace is in use.

3. Make sure the fireplace bumper pad is made of a material you can trim to customize the fit. Most fireplace bumper pads are slightly larger than the fireplace specifically so you can create a snug, safe fit.

4. Clean your fireplace with soap and water. Allow the fireplace to dry thoroughly before you attach the fireplace bumper pad.

5. Secure the hook and loop tape as recommended by the manufacturer's directions. Most fireplace bumper pads have a continuous section of hook and loop that you can apply to the fireplace and the bumper pad. Others have frequent sections of hook and loop.

6. Press firmly to insure the portion of the hook and loop tape securely to the fireplace. Line up the side sections of your fireplace bumper pad first, then place the middle section into position.

7. Trim away any excess bumper with a utility knife, making sure you create a snug fit so no bricks or sharp edges are uncovered.
