Use a chlorine enhancer in a swimming pool to help your chlorine become more effective in preventing algae from growing. If you can maintain the right balance, you don't have to use an algaecide to get rid of algae. Maintaining the right chemical balance in your pool is easy to do each week when you follow a few simple steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check your swimming pool's chlorine level with a chlorine test strip to determine if you need to increase or decrease the level.

  2. Step 2

Add chlorine enhancer to your swimming pool to increase your pool's chlorine levels. Follow the package directions on how much to add.

  3. Step 3

Determine if the amount of chlorine enhancer you added to your pool increased your chlorine levels. Check the levels with a chlorine test strip. Add more chlorine enhancer until you reach the desired level of chlorine in your swimming pool.

  4. Step 4

Increase the amount of chlorine enhancer in your pool if you see signs of algae growing. Chlorine enhancer is most effective on mustard algae.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you maintain the right chlorine levels at all times with your chlorine enhancer, algae cannot grow.
  • Avoid using too much chlorine enhancer. Less chemicals in your pool means less maintenance.
