It's important to maintain your swimming pool's chemical levels so you have clean water to swim in. Bromine is a chemical that is similar to chlorine and used to sanitize indoor swimming pools. Follow the tips below when buying bromine for your swimming pool.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find out the benefits of using bromine for your swimming pool. Bromine sanitizes more volume of water than chlorine. It's also less irritating to the skin and eyes. Bromine typically costs more than chlorine.

  2. Step 2

Consider using bromine if your pool has a heater. Bromine is more effective than chlorine for warmer water temperatures.

  3. Step 3

Buy bromine for your swimming pool. Many pool chemical companies sell bromine (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Get a large enough supply to cover your pool's needs. You'll need to maintain a bromine level of 2 milligrams per liter if the water is less than 78 degrees Fahrenheit and at least 4 milligrams per liter if the water temperature is more than 78 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't buy bromine for your outdoor pool because UV light can break it down.

on 10/5/2009 Bromine does have a natural tendency to decrease the chance of irritating eyes, if your water chemistry is kept right, especially PH and your alkalinity
