Color-tinted hair is especially vulnerable to damage including split ends, brittleness, breakage and dryness. It is extremely important to properly wash and condition color-treated hair. This will not only extend the life of your color but also prevent untreatable damage. In addition to proper daily hair care, using a deep conditioner on a regular basis is a great way to restore shine and softness to your hair.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a hair care product that is specifically made for color treated hair. Many products now enhance your hair color and even extend the time between touch ups.

  2. Step 2

Apply a deep conditioner once a week. Applying more often is fine, unless your hair is extremely oily though this is usually rare with hair that's been color treated. The more you condition your hair the better.

  3. Step 3

Leave the conditioner on for at least the minimum suggested time on the package. In fact with most products, the longer you leave it on the better.

  4. Step 4

Wrap your hair with a warm towel or shower cap after you apply your conditioner. This will enhance the conditioning treatment and allow an even deeper conditioning.

  5. Step 5

Leave the conditioner on for the minimum suggested time on the package then rinse as directed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try a homemade deep conditioner of ½ cup of mayonnaise and ½ ripe avocado. Just mash ingredients together and apply to your hair then cover with a shower cap. Let sit for about 20 minutes and rinse well. This is a gentle and inexpensive way to deep condition.
