With the amount of sensitive information people store on computers, any problem with the computer can be a major disruption to your life. That's why it's good idea to get the hard drive inspected if you suspect problems. It could save you a mountain of headaches if it prevents a computer failure.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Decide whether you want to take the entire central processing unit for inspection or if you want to disconnect the hard drive and only take that.
Step2
Disconnect the computer from the monitor and the power source. Then remove the mouse and keyboard if necessary. If you want to take only hard the hard drive, you will need to turn off the computer, remove the computer casing, then locate and disconnect the hard drive from the inside the computer.
Step3
Take the hard drive or the central processing unit to the computer service store for inspection. Be sure you explain to the technician what the problem is. Then you will need to get an estimate of how long the inspection will take. Sometimes it can happen in a few hours, but most likely it will be as long as a week or two.
Step4
Call the computer inspection store for an update if you do not hear from them in a few days. Some places may have a backlog or have to ship the hard drive off to another site for inspection.
Step5
Retrieve the hard drive or CPU once the inspection is complete. Be sure to get a report of the inspection from the company that did the work. Then, put the hard drive or CPU back in its original place and reconnect the necessary cables.
