Paraffin wax is versatile in the spa industry. You can use it for dips as well as body treatments and facials. Applying a paraffin facial may seem a bit strange at first, but it's extremely easy and a profitable service to add to your spa.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paraffin bath
  • Paraffin wax
  • Light massage cream or face lotion
  • A natural bristle brush, approximately1/2-inch wide
  • Pre-cut gauze facial masks
  1. Step 1

Get everything set up. Depending on your paraffin bath, you may need to turn it on a good 2 hours before the client arrives. Once the wax is completely melted, take the lid off and turn the heater down. The proper temperature to use for facials is slightly cooler than the temperature used for hand and foot dips.

  2. Step 2

Have your client lay face up on the table. Massage her face with a light cream. This will feel good to the client while it moisturizes her skin.

  3. Step 3

Use your brush to apply the wax. Dip the brush into the warm wax and brush it onto the client's face. Start at the forehead and work your way down each side of the face. You can go all the way down and do the neck, or you can stop at the jaw line. Nose and upper lip are optional. Apply a second layer over the first using the same technique, making sure to apply it evenly.

  4. Step 4

Lay the gauze facial mask on the client's face, adjusting it so the eyeholes are over the eyes and the nose is sticking through the nose hole. Repeat Step 3. You'll have four layers of wax in total.

  5. Step 5

Let the paraffin sit for about 15 minutes, or until it starts to cool down. Grip the gauze at the top of the head and pull up slowly. All the paraffin should stick to the mask, leaving no residue for you to clean up. Pull it down the client's face; it should all come off in one piece. If not, pick the remains off her face gently. Discard.

Tips & Warnings
  • It helps to give the brush a quick shake after dipping it in the wax. Paraffin drips a bit when you first pull the brush out of the bath and it can fall into the client's hair as you transfer the brush to her face. If this happens, it's easy to pull the paraffin out-just wait till it dries.
