Playing paintball is a fun sport, but it can be a bit dangerous for any watching devotees. Paintball netting can be used to create a safe sideline area where the fans of this sport can watch the action on the field without becoming the potential target of stray or poorly aimed shots.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shovel
  • 2 15-foot long wooden 4x4 posts
  • Water
  • 4 40-lb bags concrete mix
  • 12x12 foot paintball netting
  • 6 eye bolts
  • 50 feet of light cable
  • 4 cable tighteners
  • 8 cable clamps
  • 2 long stakes
  1. Step 1

Dig a four foot deep hole approximately 4 inches in diameter wider than the wooden posts that you have chosen with your shovel. These posts should be at least 4 x 4 inch posts.

  2. Step 2

Set the posts into the holes. Fill the holes with water and then pour in the concrete mix. Depending upon the size of the hole, it may take up to 2 bags of cement for each hole. Use a stick to stir the concrete and water into a good mix for setting. You may need to brace the posts so they stay perfectly vertical.

  3. Step 3

Set up a ladder near one post. Drill in eye bolts approximately 6-inches below the top of the post. Place one eye bolt on the inside of the post and one on the outside. Attach the cable to the outside top of each post and use the cable clamp secure the cable to the eye bolt. Repeat this process for the other post.

  4. Step 4

Use the cable clamps to secure a 13 foot piece of cable to the inside upper eye bolt of the second post.

  5. Step 5

Secure eye bolts 6 inches from the ground on the inside of the vertical posts. Use the cable clamps to secure a 13 foot piece of cable to one of the inside eye bolts. Connect the cable tighteners to the bottom of the external cables, and secure the cables to large stakes driven into the ground.

  6. Step 6

Lay out the paintball safety netting between the posts. Thread the top cable through the loops at the top of the net. Use the ladder to attach the cable tightener to the top eye bolt on the first vertical post, and then attach the cable to the tightener. Repeat this process for the bottom of the netting.

  7. Step 7

Use the cable tighteners to slowly tighten the cables to the outside of the posts and across the inside.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can create your own paintball netting using sheets of reinforced agriculture shade netting. These will stop the majority of the paint from reaching your audience, and can be washed using a high pressure hose.
  • You can use steel uprights if you have access to a welding machine or a welder. These will last longer in most climates than wood.
  • You can expand the netting by creating connected sections of netting.
  • Paintball can be a dangerous sport. All players should be wearing the required safety gear whenever they are on the field.
