A lazy Susan is an excellent way of sharing food, condiments and spices at a large table. Making a portable lazy Susan takes it a step further and allows you to quickly move the assembly from the kitchen to a picnic table and back again. Building your own portable lazy Susan is a simple and fast project.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 14 inch square wood top, 1 inch thick
  • Bearing swivel base
  • 12 inch "U" handle
  • Drill with 1/8 inch bit
  • Screw
  • Screwdriver
  • String
  • Pencil
  • Jigsaw
  • Sandpaper
  • Router with ¼ inch depth bit
  • Paint or stain
  1. Step 1

Drill a 1/8 inch hole in the 14 inch square top and place a screw into the hole. Tie a string to the screw and a pencil to the other end and adjust the length so you're able to create a circle on the board. Cut along the line with a jigsaw and sand the edge of the board.

  2. Step 2

Shorten the string by 1 inch and make another circle. Use a router to hollow out the center to a depth of ΒΌ inch. Sand the inside and stain or paint the top along with the base and handle if desired.

  3. Step 3

Turn the tray of the portable lazy Susan on its back and install the bearing base in the center by marking the mounting holes with a pencil, drilling and securing with the provided screws. Ensure the mount is tight and the top spins easily but is secure. The top must rotate smoothly without catching or hopping.

  4. Step 4

Place the handle onto the top and mark the screw holes with a pencil. Drill a 1/8 inch hole through each mark and screw the handle in place. Load the portable lazy Susan and you're ready for the next big family gathering.
