How to Hide Cat Odor

Your cat is a valuable member of your family. Just like other members of your family, sometimes your cat has odors that simply aren't very pleasant. You can do some things to help hide unpleasant cat odor and help your cat learn healthy habits that minimize those odors.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Keep your cat litter clean. Scooping your cat litter daily and replacing it with fresh litter frequently will not only help with cat odors but it'll also encourage your cat to continue to use the litter box. Make sure the cat has full access to the litter box.
Step2
Set out bowls of potpourri. Freshen up the potpourri by adding a few drops of scented oil to it every few days. The potpourri will scent the area and help disguise the cat odor.
Step3
Use cleansers specifically designed to clean the type of stain your cat made to remove as much of the odor as possible. You'll need a different cleanser to remove urine than you will to remove blood.
Step4
Apply carpet fresheners to your floors before you vacuum your carpeting. The carpet fresheners help absorb cat odors and lift them away. You can also use baking soda for this job.
Step5
Spray upholstery, draperies and carpets with fabric freshening deodorizers to help eliminate most cat odors and mask other cat odors.
Step6
Light scented candles. Use this when you have guests arriving and not enough time to work on eliminating the cat odors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never leave lit candles unattended and make sure they're out of the reach of children.

on 7/23/2008 Interesting tips! I have a very sensitive nose for odors and nothing I’ve used has worked better than the RGF Guardian Air Plug in Plus. I have one in my basement, bedroom, and next to the cat litter box! It eliminates those funky smells and makes me feel good about my house. I’d recommend it to everyone!
