Creating a compressed, or zipped, folder reduces the file size. Compressed files take up less space on your computer and are easier to send in email. You can put one or more files in a compressed folder.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Windows XP
  1. Step 1

Click the "Start" button in the bottom left corner of your computer screen to display the Start menu. Click "My Computer" from the Start menu.

  2. Step 2

Find the files that you would like to add to the compressed folder by navigating through your drives and folders in "My Computer."

  3. Step 3

Select the files you want to add to the compressed folder by holding down your "Shift" or "Ctrl" key on your keyboard and clicking to select all the files you want to be included.

  4. Step 4

Right-click on one of the files you have selected so you see a menu. Select "Send To" from the menu and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder."

  5. Step 5

Scroll to the bottom of "My Computer" to view your new compressed folder that you created.

  6. Step 6

Rename the new compressed folder by right-clicking on top of the folder and choosing "Rename" from the menu. Type in a new name for the compressed folder.
