Final Cut Pro is a similar edit system to AVID. If you're familiar with the functions and capabilities of AVID, you can learn the commands and keystrokes of Final Cut Pro relatively quickly. Final Cut is more efficient in organizing clips into bins because you don't have to open a new window. Instead, you can make bins easily within your browser window.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Double click the imported clips in your browser window and label each one so that you know what the clip is by the description.
Step2
Place your mouse in an empty space within the window and right click to open a sub menu.
Step3
Scroll down and left click on "New Bin." A folder icon appears at the top of your clip list. Type in a name for the bin and hit "Enter" on your keyboard to accept the changes.
Step4
Drag a clip into the bin by left clicking on the clip, hold down the button and drag it into the bin folder.
Step5
Check to make sure that your clip is in the bin. Click on the arrow next to the bin folder to open the bin and view its contents.
Step6
Repeat Steps 2 through 6 to create as many bins as necessary for clip organization.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hold down the "Shift" and "Alt" keys to select multiple clips and drag them into a bin.
  • Organize clips by shot location, interview subject, music and voice overs so that you can find shots quickly in edit.
