Recycling your Christmas wreath sets a good example for your family members and your community. Most towns have recycling centers available for you to dispose of your Christmas wreath, trees and swags. Or, you can explore other ways to recycle.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove everything from the wreath, including ribbons, decorations or the wires used to attach decorations.

  2. Step 2

Cut the Christmas wreath into sections small enough to fit into the yard waste container used by your garbage collection service.

  3. Step 3

Contact your local recycling center to see if there are specific days or times that you can drop off your Christmas wreath.

  4. Step 4

Ask if any charitable organizations are recycling Christmas trees, wreaths or swags as a fundraising event. Several organizations do so regularly, including the Boy Scouts and several church youth groups. Paying a small fee for them to collect your wreath benefits the organization and the environment.

  5. Step 5

Put your Christmas wreath through a rented wood chipper and use the chips as mulch in your landscape or as compost. Go in with your neighbors to make it an annual event.

  6. Step 6

Remove the boughs and burn the wood of your Christmas wreath in your fireplace.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't add Christmas greenery to yard waste unless it's specifically ok with your garbage collection service. The two are typically recycled differently.
