Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Make a plan. Start thinking about next year's gift giving the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. Resolve to shop for a few gifts each month.
Step2
Keep a list of names in your purse. Write down every single person you have to buy a gift for, and look at the list every time you're shopping.
Step3
Have a serious talk with you family if you feel gift giving has gotten out of control. Maybe you can all decide to just give to the children or draw names. Perhaps you could all go somewhere together on a vacation rather than spending money on buying gifts.
Step4
Give the same gift to everyone. Make a visit to the bookstore, and chances are you'll find a gift for everyone on your list. Stop by the music and movie store, and you'll be finished with your shopping in no time.
Step5
Think about what people really want. Your sister probably doesn't need another pair of bunny slippers, but she'd be thrilled for you to take her preschool kids for one afternoon each week.
Step6
Donate to a charity. When you thoughtfully give to a cause they care about, your family and friends will be honored.
Step7
Emphasize the joy and love of the holiday season, rather than what's inside a festively wrapped box. You don't have to make excuses for refusing to get caught up in the usual gift giving madness.
