The backside boardslide is a neat skateboarding trick to watch, but it's one of the more complex skateboarding tricks to actually perform. You should have a full working knowledge of performing an ollie before you think about doing the backside boardslide.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Railing or ledge
  • Skateboard
  1. Step 1

Find enough room to gain plenty of speed before you encounter the railing or ledge that you will use for this trick. The backslide boardslide involves skating on an object, turning the board so it slides on the object at a 90-degree angle for part of the way, sliding your feet off the back of the board and then landing back with your feet square on the board just as you began.

  2. Step 2

Focus your attention on the railing and riding up to it with your back toward it. Practice picking up speed and coming up on the ledge or railing a few times.

  3. Step 3

Envision yourself performing this trick. If you can't focus on exactly what you need to do to complete the backside boardslide, don't even bother trying. This can be a dangerous trick, especially when performing it on hard concrete.

  4. Step 4

Enter a squatting-like position on your skateboard and push down on the back end of your board, allowing you to ollie up on the railing or ledge.

  5. Step 5

Concentrate on placing the wood part of your board in direct contact with the object you're using. This trick requires the wheels to be on either side of the railing or ledge. The feeling you should get when you're on the railing is that of standing on an object that's sliding quickly down slope.

  6. Step 6

Turn 90 degrees back so you're starting to face the backside of the skateboard as it approaches the end of the railing. Slide off the back of the skateboard and turn back toward the front while you're off the board.

  7. Step 7

Place your feet back on the board as it lands on the ground. You should land with both feet on the board and with all four wheels on the ground. You can now ride away from the ledge or railing, having completed the backside boardslide.
