Often, people only hug one another at certain times, such as weddings, funerals or after bad news is received. Hugs seem to be on cue at these moments, which relieves the potential awkwardness. However, sometimes people needs hugs at other times even more. If you follow some steps giving random hugs can brighten the lives of your family and friends and make you feel better, too.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Notice when people close to you are in need of a random hug. Look for signs they are feeling down or just a little lonely.
Step2
Find out if everything is going all right. Ask them how they are doing to open the line of communication and give them an opportunity to talk about anything which might be troubling them.
Step3
Ask them if they would like a hug. Even if your friend or family member says everything is all right, tell them you just want them to know you're always there for them if they need you and you care about them. This is a good lead in into a hug.
Step4
Hug them if they give their approval. If the person declines or indicates a hug is not necessary, do not push it. Some people do not like to be hugged and even if they really do need one, it's best not to force it on them.
Step5
Join the Free Hugs Campaign. The Free Hugs Campaign is a campaign to give random hugs to strangers. Participators display a sign which says "Free Hugs" in a public place and hug people who approach them. To participate, visit the Free Hugs website.
