Step 1
Talk to your friend about what's troubling her. Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance and, if left untreated, normal events can trigger thoughts of suicide. In many cases, the person thinks the situation is worse than it is. You can't exactly reason with someone in a depressed state, but try your best.
-
Step 2
Reassure him that you're there to help him. Explain the positive things about life and point out every reason you can think of that he has to live. Discuss his dreams and aspirations as that will help him focus on pleasant goals.
-
Step 3
Do things with her.Treat your friend like a normal human being but tread lightly when speaking and don't be critical. Encourage her to partake in his usual activities, like going to work and having dinner with friends. This may just be the hope she needs.
-
Step 4
Suggest that your friend see a therapist or call a suicide hotline. These people are professionals and can shed some light on why your friend is feeling this way. Also point out that there are many natural and pharmaceutical options for relieving depression, so maybe he should give one of them a try.
-
Step 5
Call 911 right away if you seriously believe that your friend is about to try to kill herself. If you can, keep your friend talking to you, assure her that life is worth living and remove any weapons from the area. If you can't communicate with the person, calling the police is the only thing you can do once it gets to that point.
